    About Teacher: Jamie Boder: Co- Founder

    I was diagnosed with AS in 2016 and I was drawn to dread and despair. I could barely walk and was fearful about my future. I went to a support group and met Geoff who introduced me to yoga. After the first session I woke up to the realisation that this could be a huge part of recovering my life. I practised consistently every single day and began to see huge changes. The day I met Geoff I had a vision that one day I wanted to share this practice with as many people as possible and 6 years later here we are. I am a qualified yoga teacher with experience of working with hundreds of people with AS both in a class and one to one setting. I always teach the people in front of me. I personalise each practice to suit people's abilities and experiences of AS.

    Jamie, 24, is a keen skateboarder which he is now able to enjoy again. He loves time with friends, family and being out in nature.

    Class Description: 

    These classes are for everybody and anybody with AS.

    It is slow and calming. These classes are a great option if you experience fatigue. 

    These are very gentle poses held for a bit longer. 

    The yoga draws from: Restorative, Yin, Nidra, Breath-work, Meditation.

    Comfort is always our intention. Enjoy!

    Class Description: Perfect for those new to Yoga for AS and want to begin with a very gentle introduction in to Yoga for AS.

    About Teacher: Geoff Lindsay Co- Founder

    My first AS symptoms were when I was 24, in 1973. So I do truly know how you feel. I started regular yoga practice in 1990. It made me feel good but I didn't know why or how. I came to realise that this yoga practice was helping my AS. Meeting so many other people with AS in my local AS support group over several years, I realised that we had to develop yoga for the different presentations of AS dis/ability, with the main aim of relieving pain, stiffness and fatigue. Then I met Jamie Boder, who has AS and became a yoga teacher. Together we co-founded Yoga for AS. Now here we are in 2022, astonished. We have a worldwide community of >3000 people with AS, all wanting to develop safe regular practice of Yoga for AS. I teach yoga modified for AS and for the people with AS in my class. Above all I want people to enjoy their practice.

    Geoff is a Retired Registered Social Worker, married to Cathy for 46 years, two wonderful grown up children and their partners, and two wonderful grandchildren.

    Class Description: Yoga, to relieve AS pain, inflammation and stiffness.
    Suitable for those who can get down to the floor, are relatively mobile and able to move in all planes of direction. 
    Breathing, Yoga poses and relaxation. 
    1 hour class, check in up to 15 minutes before.
    You will need a chair, pillows, blankets and space the size of a single bed.
    Time to chat after class with teacher and fellow students from your class.

All classes include postures/exercises for flexibility, strength, mobility and balance, breath work for regulating the nervous system and promoting relaxation, and guided mindfulness/meditation practices. All classes are adaptable for all bodies and abilities. My yoga classes have a therapeutic approach, provide many options to try, use props, and progressively build skills.

    Class Description: Gentle Accessible Yoga-60 minute practice perfect for people with arthritis

    About Teacher: 

    Cindy Senk M.ED in Rehabilitation, RYT(Registered Yoga Teacher)-200, Yoga for Arthritis Instructor, ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) Certified Personal Trainer and AFAA (Aerobics Fitness Association of America) certified exercise instructor both land and aquatics, Arthritis Foundation
    Certified Land and Water Instructor, Owner-MOVEMENT FOR ALL, over 35 years’ experience in the Fitness industry, 20 years teaching Mat and Chair Yoga, running coach, Pilates instructor, Active Older Adults exercise specialist. I have also presented Fitness workshops and programs nationally for AFAA
    (Aerobics Fitness Association of America), USWFA (United States Water Fitness Association), the Arthritis Foundation, Leading Age and ICAA (international Council of Active Aging). I am on faculty at the World Instructor Training School and teach personal training certification courses, and an Adjunct
    Professor at Manchester Community College in the Health & Exercise Science Program. I am part of the Medical Fitness Network and specialize in chronic illness and injury program design and intervention. I have volunteered with the Arthritis Foundation for over 20 years.

    Class DescriptionYoga for Osteoporosis and Arthritis, 10 60-minute classes, Thursdays, 9am, October 13 -- December 22, 2022. Cost $200.00 ($20 per class), w/ check mailed to E. Hansen, 309 East 108th Street, 2a, New York, NY 10029. Class description: Students learn 12 poses, selected for strengthening bone of hips, spine and wrist. Collectively the poses are also effective for relieving pain and stiffness of arthritis of shoulders, wrist, spine, hips, and knees. Poses are taught in beginner, intermediate and classical versions and students select the version most comfortable for their bodies. Students have chairs for support and for use in the poses. Class closes with at least 5 minutes of Savasana.

    Location: Online, by Zoom.
