    Class Description: Aqua Yoga has all the benefits of land-based yoga such as stress and pain reduction, better body awareness, increased flexibility. Being in the water increases your range of motion, plus it's super fun in the gorgeous Florida weather. 

    About Teacher: Christa Fairbrother's focus is aqua yoga because it is kind to people's joints and is so accessible. It's an easy way to start a yoga practice. It allows people who've lost a land practice to continue, and challenges people with an active land practice to explore their bodies in new ways.

    Self-Paced Online YFA Level I Training

    Yoga for Arthritis Level I Training with Dr. Moonaz

    This Level I training is fully online and at your own pace. Course must be completed within a year of purchase date.

    That being said, you will still be supported by Yoga for Arthritis faculty and staff throughout your journey. The program includes recorded lectures, slides, research articles, quizzes, reflection questions, activities, and assignments. You must complete all elements of the course to receive a certificate of completion and professional CEUs. After completing this Level I training, you are qualified to teach the evidence-based Yoga for Arthritis program in your community. Also, you will be eligible to continue toward Yoga for Arthritis certification, which includes Level II mentorship & Level III training, both available online. These steps are recommended for anyone wishing to specialize in work with this population, work with private clients, or provide Yoga for Arthritis in healthcare settings. 

    Yoga for Arthritis was developed by yoga researcher and arthritis expert Steffany Moonaz, PhD, along with an interdisciplinary team, including rheumatologists, psychologists, public health researchers and yoga therapists. Combining ancient yoga practices with modern medical knowledge, this program offers modifications to address the unique abilities and limitations of persons with arthritis. In a 7-year randomized clinical trial at Johns Hopkins University, the program’s participation was associated with improved arthritis symptoms, physical fitness, psychological functioning and quality of life. Such evidence is vital for bridging the integrative yoga world with medical healthcare, making these practices more accessible to those who really need them.

    This training program trains yoga teachers to safely and effectively impart rigorously researched yoga practices, with individually-tailored modifications, to those with arthritis and related conditions. As a result of taking this Yoga for Arthritis teacher training program, participants will be able to:

    • Become familiar with the most common arthritic conditions, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthritis, etc.
    • Understand joint anatomy and pathophysiology as related to arthritis in depth
    • Offer modifications for joint limitations and chronic pain
    • Teach Yoga for Arthritis classes in their communities
    • Work individually with arthritic clients of all ability levels

    Training Information: 

    This Level I training is fully online and at your own pace. Course must be completed within a year of purchase date

    The pre-course reading and digital materials are within the online course.

    After completing this Level I training, you are qualified to teach Yoga for Arthritis program. Also, you will be eligible to continue toward Yoga for Arthritis certification, which includes Level II mentorship & Level III training. 

    Prerequisite: 200 Hour Yoga Teacher training

    CEU's - Yoga Alliance: 34 hrs (30 contact; 4 non-contact); IAYT: 34 hours; Integral Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA): can provide you a CE certificate with your program's total contact hours for a $10 fee (free for IYTA members); Integral Yoga 300-hour: 34 hours towards RYT 500 designation

    Class Description: Join certified yoga therapist Dr. Steffany Moonaz for a 1-hour yoga class based on 15 years of research showing improved arthritis symptoms. This class will include movement to reduce joint stiffness, poses to build strength and flexibility, breathing practices to help manage stress and pain, and mindfulness practices to build resilience and peace of mind. You will need a sturdy chair and the ability to stand without assistance. The class will combine some standing and some chair poses. Dr. Moonaz will explain the science behind these practices and things you can do at home to keep up the benefits of yoga in your daily life.

    Class Description: Diane's classes offer a simple yoga with modifications for special needs and an emphasis on the biomechanics of yoga and the relationship of mind, body, and spirit. She encourages students to discover how to feel the poses and the alignment in their own bodies, how to make the practice their own, and how to integrate breathe, movement, and the meditative aspects of yoga in a healing manner. 

    About Teacher: 

    Diane Dunn began teaching yoga in Reno in 2016. My focus on the biomechanics of yoga began in 2013 prior to knee replacement due to arthritis I had taken yoga in various forms since 1980, but only really began to pay attention when I needed a knee replacement due to overuse and osteoarthritis. It was at this point that the work I was able to do with physical therapists and Angela Sullivan at Ascent therapy in Carson City , Nevada for the year prior to the surgery and the year after gave me the grounding for what I wanted to pass on. In 2016 I completed basic training in Yoga for the Special Child . This introduced me to Integral Yoga and adaptive yoga which I began teaching with Kathy Randolph at The Yoga Center in Reno, Nevada. I earned my 200 hour RYTC from Vira Bhava Yoga teaching training program under Amy Joytir and Kelly Gordon with Angela Sullivan as my mentor in 2017. Then I heard and saw Dr. Moonaz presenting online and I knew that was it. It was exactly what I needed to say and how I wanted to teach. From then I just can’t get enough I just keep wanting to learn more and go deeper and pass it on. I went on to specialize in Yoga for Arthritis under Dr. Stephanie Moonaz, completing Level I Yoga for Arthritis in 2017 in Boston, MA. Then mentored with Ann Swanson, whose book Science of Yoga had already been one of my Yoga bibles. I completed Level III training in 2020 with Dr. Moonaz. I was blessed to had the zoom teaching tutorial with Ann Swanson also in 2020 this really helped me when it became necessary to go online. In 2020 I began taking my classes onto zoom classes.
