Yoga for Arthritis Chair Class
Lorrie Denning is teaching an 8 week Yoga for Arthritis & Chronic Pain chair class. Lorrie is a Level 1 YFA Instructor, but has a background in Prime of Life Yoga (POLY) and in advanced Yoga Therapy (YTRx 500). She also is a certified chair yoga instructor.
Exercise is known to play a key role in promoting joint health. Arthritic joints need to be moved daily to promote circulation, improve function and decrease pain. In this class, gentle movements encourage circulation and bring lubrication to the joints. “Motion is Lotion”.
Can’t get down on the floor? Well, you don’t need to! Chair Yoga adapts yoga poses to your body through creative use of a chair. The chair replaces the yoga mat and becomes an extension of your body, providing support and stability. Poses are done seated on the chair, or standing using the chair for stability and balance.
All postures are adapted to meet the student’s individual needs and abilities in a noncompetitive, supportive environment.
Improve flexibility & balance
Increase muscle strength and endurance
Increase breath capacity
Supports social connections
***Yoga is generally done in bare feet. If socks are worn, rubber grips on the bottom are recommended for safety.
